| Bhuwan KC receives the Paul Morrison Guide Award |
The specialist travel magazine Wanderlust held an awards ceremony at the Royal Geographical Society in London to celebrate excellence in the guiding arena. The winners of the inaugural Paul Morrison Guide Award 2006, named in honour of the magazine's late founder, were picked from a shortlist of 70 guides from around the world.
We take great pride in announcing that the final result was a dead heat between our own KC Bhuwan, a trekking guide/sardar who has a long association with Mountain Travel and Manda Chisanga, a safari guide from Zambia. Third place went to Martin Gray, a naturalist who offers tours of Antarctica and South Georgia. The guides were nominated by readers and represented a range of destinations and specializations.
Bhuwan was brought up in the foothills south-west of Pokhara and has been associated with Mountain Travel for seventeen years. Starting as a porter, he worked his way up the ranks to become a sardar. Besides being an excellent leader, he is also knowledgeable about the flora and fauna, culture, religion and environment of the areas in which he leads our clients. He impresses clients with his dedication, professionalism and personality, leading some to exclaim that he is the best they’ve come across.
"KC's endearing quality is that of sensing the needs of the group. A lot of the time he was unobtrusive, quietly organising a team of up to 40 porters and staff so that the camp was set up and closed down, meals were prepared and hygiene ensured almost without us noticing. His organisation of the end-of-trek concert and the hilarious auction of discarded clothing will stay in my memory for a long time," said Gerry Slater from Northumberland, one of the innumerable clients guided by Bhuwan over the years. |

| Draped across and nestling beneath a backdrop of the highest peaks on
the planet (eight of them, and they are still growing), Nepal has fascinated
for centuries. Embracing some of the world’s most extreme terrain, this is
the place where glacial waters rage from Himalayan origins through steamy plains
towards India and the Bay of Bengal. Nepal is a land of colour and magnificence
filled with vibrant and varied culture, spectacular scenery and some of the world’s
rarest wildlife; a land that lifts the spirit and sharpens the senses ...More>> |
